Baby Sandwich has a new getup for St. Patty’s Day this year.

The hat is HelloYarn’s Top Down Bonnet, which is so cute it kills me. You should make one. Now!

The mittens are loosely based on this pattern, and the legwarmers are this one. I diverged from the legwarmer pattern a bit by decreasing just under the knee so the legwarmers would fit a bit more snuggly on the lower leg.

The yarn is Sunshine Yarns Luxury Sport Superwash yarn. I striped ‘Algae’ and ‘Organic Garden’ to get the cool light and dark green stripes.

And these are the super cute mittens he has yet to actually wear because he always pulls them off!

So my stash was getting a little out of hand. There’s debate on whether I am now in the SABLE (Stash Acquisition Beyond Life Expectancy) category… but there is no doubt that I definitely needed to tidy up my yarny possessions. So this:

Lately I have had bees on the brain. My husband and I have been talking for a while now about getting a bee hive, and now it seems bees are everywhere! We recently saw the documentary Vanishing of the Bees and I was amazed at how little I knew about such an important part of our ecosystem. My husband is now planning on building some hives of our own.

The documentary was put on by the Village Farmer’s Market Association, and I made some Honeycomb cupcakes for the event.

The cake itself was a spiced honey cake, with cream cheese frosting and a sugar-crusted sugar cookie on top. The bees were made from a black jelly bean and the wings were almond slices. They’re from the book What’s New, Cupcake.

And continuing with my bee theme, I made baby Sandwich (so nick-named by his older brother–it’s a long story) a fuzzy black and yellow striped hat for the chilly mornings. The pattern is PomPom Bear by Amanda Keeys (Rav link).

Stitches West

I recently was lucky enough to attend Stitches West! If you’ve never been to a knitting/spining/fiber convention, you should know that it’s definitely worth the effort. I had never even heard of Stitches West until recently, when Dani of SunshineYarns posted that she would have a booth there. She is beyond sweet and her handdyed yarns are my absolute favorite, so I was so excited to get the chance to meet her. I also got to meet some of the Sunshine Yarnies from her Ravelry group. It was so fun to meet them in person.

I would complain about the rainy, nearly 5 hour drive, but considering (many!) other people drove/flew much further, I’ll refrain : ) The Santa Clara Convention Center was huge and completely packed with yarn, fiber, needles, buttons, books, designs, and the people who sell and love them. I got to meet some new and previously-loved designers, as well as meet up with some Ravelry friends.

…and I came home with quite I few things I just couldn’t live without, of course.

As many knitters/spinners/moms/women before me, I have started a blog. Nothing fancy, but a way to document and share my projects, (mis)adventures, successes, and (of course) failures. I have so enjoyed following along with other bloggers, that I hope I can add something small to the blogosphere myself.
